Auto theft and insurance rates [Infographic]

Your car is probably one of your most expensive possessions - but a sticky-fingered thief may be waiting around the corner to steal it away. In 2011, over 700,000 vehicles were reported stolen. And while most car owners are careful to protect their vehicles, many still practice unsafe habits. According to a 2007 survey by the National Insurance Crime Bureau and LoJack, one third of people surveyed said they had left their car while it was running. Forty percent of people surveyed said that they had left valuables such as wallets and bank statements in their vehicle.

In order to protect your car from theft, a standard collision policy won't cut it - you'll need to purchase a comprehensive policy. However, that extra cost is certainly worth the peace of mind you'll get from knowing your car will be protected if it ever gets stolen.
