Why You Should Get To Know Your Car Insurance Agent
August 3rd, 2010
When you buy car insurance it is important to do more than just purchase the policy. Just like a little extra digging and research can pay dividends for you financially, but so can getting to know your car insurance agent. It's one of the lesser known ways to save money on your car insurance quotes but if you are smart, building a relationship with your agent can be the start of extra money in your pocket for years to come.
When you shop for car insurance quotes, it is difficult to know if you are getting to best policy possible. A computer program may not always be able to assess your specific situation or how you might be best able to save money. It may not able to make the proper recommendations for you. Or you may not feel as if you have the ability to choose enough specific information for your current situation.
This is where getting to know your insurance agent comes in handy. An insurance agent, for instance, can tell you how to save. For example, if you have an older car that is on its last legs then your insurance agent can inform you that comprehensive coverage may not be the best route for you to go. They may suggest something more suited to your needs and to your wallet like liability insurance.
But your car insurance agent is more than a person who can save you money initially. They can save you money down the road. A lot of time insurance companies will come up with new policies and new discounts for drivers. Often times those customers with an existing policy may not be informed but if you have built a good relationship with your agent then you are likely to get a letter or a personal phone call alerting you to the changes so you can take advantage of it right away.
Your insurance agent can be a blessing if the unfortunate collision ever happens. The worry when you get into an accident, especially one where you are not at fault is if and when you are going to get your money. This can be stressful as it will cost you money until you get your reimbursement. If you go through a central office you may not get the personalized service that you would get from your own agent.
Your insurance agent can go the extra mile to make sure that all of the accident claim information is processed quickly and that they work hard to collect money from the other company. It's the kind of personal customer service that is lacking without building a strong relationship with your insurance agent.
