The Internet has made it easier than ever to find online car insurance quotes and has also made it easier to apply for car insurance online. But how do you determine if an online quote meets your needs? Are all online car insurance quotes the same, or do they differ in how they can meet your insurance needs? There are many ways to determine if an online quote meets your needs, but there are two basic things to look for when evaluating a quote.
First, assess your financial status. To do this, you need to know how much risk you can take on. If you were to get into a car accident, would you have enough funds to pay for damages not only to your car but for medical payments, if necessary? If the answer is no and you do not have enough funds even to fix a simple repair that would cost up to $500, then you know that you need insurance that has a low deductible. The deductible is the amount you pay before the insurance starts paying for costs. If you do not have cash on hand, then having a low deductible will protect you from being short handed should the need ever arise. If, however, you do have a good reserve in place and you can afford paying for car damages and medical payments right away, then you don't need a low deductible. It would probably be more advantageous to have insurance with a high deductible since you would have lower monthly premiums.
Second, assess your health coverage. You can elect medical payments with your car insurance policy, or you can choose to allow your current health insurance to cover all your needs. If you have health insurance that is adequate for your needs, you probably do not need to elect medical coverage along with your car insurance. However, if your health insurance has high deductibles and you do not have cash on hand for an emergency, and there are gaps in your coverage, you may want to consider adding medical benefits to your car insurance policy. This can protect you from an emergency where you need medical treatment and the bill is large enough that your current health insurance will not be able to cover it adequately.
To determine if a quote meets your needs, find out how much insurance you need and assess your health insurance coverage. If your needs are more or less than you realized, you can adjust your quote to meet your new needs.
